The Makarov pistol is a semi-automatic 9mm caliber pistol designed in 1948 by the Soviet manufacturer NIKOLAI MAKAROV.
It has was named in Russian tradition after the name of its designer.
Since 1949 it has been manufactured with a simple blowback mechanism and has been used for over 50 years as a service weapon by the army and the police Russian (formerly Soviet).
Its design is of the Walther PPK type. The main production site has always been in the Russian city of Izhevsk.
The Makarov pistol is available in many different models that were or are made in China, ex-DDR, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia.
